We have made a promise to end breast cancer forever – energizing science to find the cures is a critical part of this promise. Beginning another exciting year for our Grants Program, we have released four Requests for Applications (RFA) for our 2008-2009 research funding cycle. Komen will continue its strategic focus on speeding the translation of research discoveries to reduce breast cancer incidence and mortality within the next decade and bring increased emphasis on finding solutions for disparities in breast cancer across populations.

Disparities Research Funding Opportunities

APPLICATION DEADLINES EXTENDED!

Training in Disparities Research – Komen has released two RFAs to attract researchers to the study of population disparities in breast cancer and to increase important skills and expertise to design and conduct research that will begin to address the causes of and remedies for breast cancer disparities across population groups. These RFAs are now available.

  • Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship in Disparities Research (PBF-DR) – PBF-DR grants seek to attract individuals from populations affected by disparities in breast cancer outcomes into careers seeking to understand and eliminate these disparities; provide the tools and environment in which students very early in their career can begin to define meaningful career paths focused on addressing disparities in breast cancer; and empower these students with the analytic, research, scientific, clinical, and public health skills critical to effectively exploring the basis for differences in breast cancer outcomes and translating research discoveries into clinical and public health practice to eliminate disparities in breast cancer outcomes. Application deadlines have been extended! Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application and are now due no later than July 3, 2008, 8 p.m. eastern time. Full applications are due August 22, 2008, 8 p.m. eastern time..

  • Career Catalyst in Disparities Research – CC-DR grants seek to foster independent careers in research exploring the basis for differences in breast cancer outcomes and the translation of this research into clinical and public health practice interventions, particularly among junior scientists from populations affected by breast cancer disparities. Application deadlines have been extended! Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application and are now due no later than July 3, 2008, 8 p.m. eastern time. Full applications are due August 22, 2008, 8 p.m. eastern time..

Research Grants Funding Opportunities

Now Open!

  • Investigator-Initiated Research (IIR) - IIR Grants provide up to $600,000 over three years to stimulate exploration of new ideas and novel approaches in breast cancer research and clinical practice that will lead to reductions in breast cancer incidence and mortality within the next decade. Special emphasis will be given to studies seeking to understand the basis for difference in breast cancer outcomes and translating research discoveries into clinical and public health practice to eliminate breast cancer disparities. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than July 1, 2008 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due September 4, 2008 8:00pm eastern time.

  • Career Catalyst Research (CCR) Grants - CCR Grants provide unique opportunities for scientists in the early stages of their career to achieve research independence with an independent award of up to $450,000 over three years. CCR investigators lead a research project addressing an important question in breast cancer research and complete a self-defined career development plan with support from a mentor committee. Pre-applications are required prior to starting a full application. Pre-applications are due no later than July 1, 2008 8:00pm eastern time and full applications are due September 4, 2008 8:00pm eastern time.

2008-2009 Requests for Applications (RFA) Schedule

We have new release dates for RFAs in the 2008-2009 grants cycle! Our new RFA schedule provides additional time for application preparation and review. Starting this year, most RFAs will be release in two cycles, the first in early summer focusing on research support and the second in the fall focusing on training support. Other RFAs addressing particularly important or timely issues may be released at other times during the year. Learn More

Funding Notifications

The scientific review of applications submitted during the 2007-2008 funding cycle has been completed and the Komen Board of Directors has approved a final slate of applications for funding, contingent upon Komen’s receipt of fully executed contracts. The outcome of this review and approval process as well as final reviewer critiques for all applications has been posted to individual applicants’ Komen Grants Access application accounts. Applicants can access this information by logging onto www.KomenGrantsAccess.org as an applicant using the same username and password used to submit their application. Final lists of all funded grants form the 2007-2008 funding cycle can only be posted after signed contract agreements are received by Komen.

Komen Grants Access

You can now use our new Komen Grants Access online system – a single location for accessing application, review, and post-award management systems, resources, and help desk assistance.

The Grants Access Application System is a fully customized, online solution for applying for research funding. This system makes it easier to apply for research funding! Application System tabs correspond to each section in the research application and validation rules provide a check for eligibility, budget and other requirements. Other features include automated emails to provide pro-active notifications for important steps in the application process, reminder checklists, and a toll-free help desk and online support.

The Grants Access Review System builds on Constella Group’s P2RMIS™ (Program and Peer Review Management Information System) software. This system provides an online management tool for coordinating review committees, application assignments, reviewer scoring and critique of applications, management reporting, as well as coordination of meeting logistics.

The Grants Access Post-Award Management System links to Altum’s proposalCentral. This system allows funded grantees to view, edit, and submit financial reports, progress reports, and final reports.

Current Grantees

Research grantees are required to submit scientific reports, financial reports and other grant documents by uploading them to existing proposalCENTRAL accounts.
