Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s 10th Annual Mission Conference Opens

Breast Cancer through the Eyes of Presidential Candidates, Politicians and Advocates Takes Center Stage

WASHINGTON, D.C. - August 24, 2007 -
Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s 10th Annual Mission Conference, Ignite the Promise, will take place August 26-28 at the Marriott Crystal Gateway Hotel near Washington, D.C. More than 1,000 participants, including breast cancer survivors and activists, breast health professionals, research scientists and political leaders will shed light on current trends in breast cancer research, highlight superior outreach and education programs and engage in dialogue about cancer’s place on the national agenda.

Events of particular interest include a keynote address featuring Komen for the Cure Founder Nancy G. Brinker and Komen Chief Scientific Advisor Dr. Eric Winer on Sunday, August 26 at 8:15 a.m., breakout sessions on topics such as clinical trials, patient navigators and data sharing throughout the conference, and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney addressing attendees during the keynote address on Tuesday, August 28 at 8:25 a.m. See below for more information on a forum featuring presidential candidates responding to questions posed by Komen on Monday, August 27.

Founder’s Forum on the Politics of Breast Cancer

What:

Why isn’t cancer public enemy number one? Presidential candidates and other political leaders answer questions posed by Komen leadership – including Founder Nancy G. Brinker – about reigniting the War on Cancer and the role of breast cancer advocacy in public policy. The forum includes on-site and phone-in interviews, as well as never-before-seen recorded video responses.
