History

The Komen Minnesota Affiliate began as a Race for the Cure® in 1993. In 1999, we incorporated and became the Minnesota Affiliate. Since our inception, we have been blessed to be embraced by a community that shares our commitment to raising money for breast cancer education, screening, preliminary treatment and research. Each year we increase our investment in our community's fight against breast cancer. In addition to funding local Minneapolis/St. Paul non-profits and educational institutions for their breast health work, we actively provide education and outreach throughout Minnesota.

Susan G. Komen Twin Cities Race for the Cure® and Other Events

The Race for the Cure continues to be our largest fundraiser. In our first year, we had 2,500 registrants and our host site was Southdale Center. Our early Races featured very few participants, but a whole lot of enthusiasm. Today we host our annual Race on Mother's Day at Mall of America® and have nearly 50,000 registrants. Our wonderful survivors provide the inspiration for our Race, and the generosity of over 2,000 fabulous volunteers gives it wings. We continue to encourage and celebrate our survivors with a special tribute and celebration on Race day. Throughout the year, we actively participate in numerous third-party events to raise funds and help increase awareness.

Mission Work

Our unique partnership with our grantees allows us to use their reach into our community to further our mission work. They serve as our primary breast health educators and screeners. As we identify and fund local non-profits to target and serve underserved populations throughout the state, we are often recognized for excellent work and truly have our grantees to thank for this.

We look forward to expanding our breast health outreach efforts and becoming an ever-greater resource to our community. For more information on Komen Minnesota, please call us at 952-746-1760 or visit www.komenminnesota.org.
