Marty Bailor

Friend. Dependable. Tireless. Organizer. Survivor. These are all adjectives that describe Komen Central Texas Affiliate Volunteer Marty Bailor. Marty is no stranger to those involved in the activities to further the mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She has been a breast cancer survivor since 1998. When asked if she would have become involved with Komen for the Cure had she not had breast cancer, Marty said that she would have, because a friend also had breast cancer. Marty joined the Affiliate with the desire to help educate others about the importance of early detection and treatment options. Marty considers herself a joiner, and wants to make a difference in this area.

And what a contribution she has made! Marty first learned of Komen and the Komen Race for the Cure® in the fall of 2000, and she has been involved ever since. She has served on the Komen Central Texas Race for the Cure® committee for the five years the Komen Central Texas Affiliate has held the Race. Marty has worked in the survivor's tent, compiled a roster of people who were involved with the committee, and for the past two years she served as President of the Komen Central Texas Affiliate.

As President of the Central Texas Affiliate from 2003-2005, she worked to increase the area's awareness of activities related to breast cancer education.  Lee National Denim Day® has been a project that Marty has particularly worked to promote. To date, over 50 local businesses have signed up for this year's October 7th event.  Her efforts to get the Affiliate's Web site up and running have been phenomenal. This year's Race will have online registration, thanks to Marty's work negotiating the contract with an online registration company.

We are happy to share Marty's story with the rest of the Komen Affiliate Network. A volunteer more deserving of this honor would be difficult to find!
