Cara Hunter

Photo of Cara Hunter

Cara Hunter served as the 2003 Chair of the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate Race for the Cure® leading efforts that took participant numbers from 5,000 to 7,400. This increase resulted not only in greater awareness of breast cancer, but also gave the Affiliate much-needed funds for important grant awards in the area.

In addition to a demanding career, she has graciously agreed to continue to serve as the chair for the 2004 Race and also has taken on the important role of co-chairing fundraising efforts. Cara made a commitment this year to call on new sponsors and find more opportunities to raise revenue for the Affiliate. In addition to these new avenues, Cara took the initiative to sell handmade rugs as a part of the Shop for a Cure® fundraiser at the Affiliate's annual Sister's Luncheon.

This outstanding volunteer continuously looks for new ways to raise revenue for the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate. In addition to the countless hours she spends organizing and planning the Komen Birmingham Race for the Cure®, Cara also has instituted a new idea called "Just for Kids" and is challenging area high schools and colleges to form competitive teams for the 2004 Race as part of the ongoing effort to increase participation throughout the area.

Cara's positive spirit and never-ending energy are spread to everyone she works with. Her care, commitment, and joyful attitude exemplify the Komen core values and enrich the lives of volunteers and those served by the Komen North Central Alabama Affiliate.
