Karan Tucker
Karan Tucker first volunteered for the inaugural Komen Boise Race for the Cure® more than 6 years ago, helping to organize, plan, and recruit local sponsors. Karan's mom had passed away from breast cancer not too long before, so she was inspired to get more involved in fighting the disease.
Following that first Race in 1999, she called the newly formed Affiliate to explore additional volunteer opportunities. She met with the executive director about project needs, and in the course of the conversation said those magic words: "I'd like to learn to fundraise." She's been helping to grow the Affiliate and Race for the Cure® funding ever since. The Board of Directors elected her as its first fundraising chair, and now knows to have checkbooks ready whenever she gives her committee reports.
By day she's the Chief Financial Officer for Mountain States Group, a diverse non-profit organization headquartered in Boise, Idaho. The organization works locally, nationally and internationally to impact the quality of people's lives through a variety of government and private foundation-funded and fee-for-service programs in the areas of rural health and community development, mental health, public health, children and families, refugees and seniors.
For fun outside of work and volunteering, Karan has participated in 3-Day events in San Francisco and Seattle, has earned her Master Gardener Certification and has adopted Maggie, an energetic border collie (is there any other kind?). Recently the family expanded with the addition of Hanna, a German wirehaired pointer with her own boots for the snow. Maggie enjoys the snow too, but her specialty is playing in the sprinkler. Karan and Jeff, her public TV filmmaker husband, share a passion for motorcycles. Karan's is a '76 Honda Shadow sporting red flames!
In the summer we look for them on Idaho's back roads, in case they're pulled over to rest and clean the bugs out of their teeth!
