Historic Breast Cancer Global Advocate Summit to Convene in Budapest, Hungary
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Brings Together Breast Cancer Advocates from More than 30 Countries
DALLAS – September 10, 2007 – “Ignite the Promise: Global Advocate Summit” is a first-of-its-kind meeting of breast cancer activists from around the world in Budapest, Hungary on September 29-30, 2007. The Summit is organized by Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest breast cancer organization.
The goal of the Summit is to better understand the global impact of breast cancer by teaming delegates from diverse professions, cultures and experiences to share strategies on how to increase breast cancer awareness, early detection and treatment options in their countries, ultimately reducing the stigma a breast cancer diagnosis can bring. Delegates will be tasked with developing advocacy guidelines to effect meaningful changes throughout the world.
“Each year, more than 1 million women receive a breast cancer diagnosis,” said Komen founder Nancy G. Brinker. “The need to provide these women—regardless of race, nationality, or socioeconomic status—an equal opportunity to beat a breast cancer diagnosis has never been greater. This Summit will enable advocates to share proven outreach tactics to save lives and end breast cancer forever.”
Delegates selected for records of activism in the fight against breast cancer
Summit delegates were selected for their records of activism and personal commitment to the fight against breast cancer. Collectively, they have contributed to breast cancer detection and treatment advances through community outreach, shaping public policy, offering health education, providing survivor support and fundraising.

Breast Health Global Initiative Consensus Conference
The Global Advocate Summit, sponsored by GE Healthcare, will be held in conjunction with the Breast Health Global Initiative Consensus Conference, of which Komen for the Cure is a co-founder, taking place Oct. 1-4, also in Budapest.
