American Airlines

In August 2008 Susan G. Komen for the Cure welcome American Airlines as its first-ever Lifetime Promise Partner. Building on its 20-year history as the official airline of Komen for the Cure and a National Series Sponsor of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, American Airlines has pledged to raise $1 million annually for eight years, to fund Komen’s first Promise Grant – a $7.5 million, five-year study of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The remainder will be used to fund health and community programs.

In recognition of this expanded partnership, American Airlines unveiled a fleet of specially co-branded aircraft, including an American Airlines Boeing 777 and 757 and several American Eagle Embraer 145 planes. The aircraft feature distinctive two-tone pink ribbon decals that run the full length of the planes. In addition, American Airlines continues to provide three round-trip airline tickets for each race event and tickets for those traveling on official Komen business – a tradition since the inception of the partnership in 1988.

To fund the 8-year commitment, American Airlines launched the Miles for the Cure® program in May 1988. For every dollar donated to Komen at www.aa.com/komen, and www.komen.org/donations, American Airlines rewards donors with five AAdvantage® miles.

In addition, American Airlines will host the 14th annual Celebrity Golf and Tennis Weekend. This event will take place October 9 through 12 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara and the Del Mar Country Club in southern California. For more information, visit www.aaevents.com.
